Inspiring teen!

I love it when I find posts like this and this is from the wonderful Sue Scheff’s Blog.

Most 14 year-olds are playing sports, listening to their music, going to movies and simply hanging with their friends. A smaller number of 14 year-olds are thinking about what they want to be when they grow up, or what college they want to attend.

Then there is Jason O’Neill with 14 years of dreaming, creating and succeeding! Yes, at 14 years old Jason already has started his own business and created an organization that gives back! During this past holiday season, Jason O’Neill made it his mission to give 250 bears to children at Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego, CA.

Lane-Sutton-One-on-one-interview-with-12-year-old-wonder-kid

Lane Sutton, also known as KidCritic, is not your average 12 year old. He created his own website critiquing movies, restaurants, books, activities and more as well as taken on Twitter by storm.

Learn about this amazing kid! Sue Scheff was honored to interview him and hopefully covered the questions people wanted to know. Someday we are going to hear big things about this young entrepeneur.

1. How old were you when you started using the computer and when did you decide to create your own website?

I have been using the computer since I was five years old when I had ran my own newspaper that was circulated to family members and friends for a couple years. I have been reading since I was three years old. On December 29, 2008 I came up with an idea to run a website where I can use my entrepreneurial expertise and writing skills as well as computer, design and code skills to create the website posting reviews. I worked very diligently to get the site up and running for a grand opening on January 1, 2009 when it was opened to the public!

Although this is not a success story that involves a Gen-Y, it is a success story that should inspire Gen-Ys to take action. It is the story of an ordinary girl from a very ordinary place who worked incredibly hard and is, as we speak, becoming a mini superstar.

Sharon Wright has taken the UK by storm after her appearance on Dragon’s Den and is heading for Oprah, however her roots are very humble.

You see, I know Sharon, I was at school with her in Scunthorpe. Now, for those of you that don’t know Scunthorpe, then to say it is the butt of all jokes is an understatement. Yet in a two-year period in one very average school, Scunthorpe has produced a TV star (me), a millionaire business owner (one of our pals who wants to remain anon) and a girl who has become known as the Dragon Slayer (and we search for more). Extraordinary! Even more so is that school gave up on all three of these people for different reasons, yet despite being throw by the wayside and assumed to be working in one of the many factories, we all pulled ourselves through the very challenging cultural legacy that being born in Scunthorpe gives you.

These are stories of grit, determination and defying the odds.

Cultural legacy and the DNA, so to speak, of where we were born, our families, where we live, all play a massive part in the expectations we hold our ourselves. To get past this is maybe the biggest challenge we all face in life.

Listen to Gen Y Inspiration – Sharon talks to Sarah on her Radio Show

I will be exploring this is much more depth but for now, see Sharon slaying the Dragons!

Sarah met Hayley in 2005 when she was a runner on Sarah’s TV Show. 4 years later Hayley is taking the world by storm with her solo music career. Hayley has been in the limelight for years. Already achieving global recognition and critical acclaim for her classically trained vocal abilities, her “stunningly pure soprano voice” (Chicago Medhill review) has earned her roles as the lead singer in both ‘Riverdance‘ and Michael Flatley’s ‘Lord of the Dance’ world tours. Along with acting accomplishments in performances for both the RSC and the BBC. Hayley is poised to take the Classical Crossover market by storm.
