Parenting a difficult teen can be an extremely challenging job.

Don’t play them at their own game
More often than not, what your teenager wants is attention. They enjoy the battle and the power struggle that goes on. If you take away all the resistance and stay calm they have nothing to react to and eventually will get bored. Don’t lower yourself to their level – remember you’re the adult.

Staying firm as a Parent
When should you stay firm when parenting your teen. I often say to parents that you really should choose your battles carefully with your children and most of the time, I think you should choose being kind with your children more than you should choose being right. I mean, does it really matter that they don’t move their school bag straight away when they come in?
However, I do think there are a few things where we must take a very firm stand with our children and I want to share that with you now.

How Teens Feel about Themselves Marks Potential Drug Abuse
Drug abuse among youth in the UK is up and we are still looking for answers.
I recently read an article stating that most drug use was linked to self esteem. It states that adolescents who report feelings of low self-image and lack of self-love are highly likely to engage in drug use. Parents need to make positive self-esteem a priority.
While on one hand I agree, I feel like I need to add and expand. My 7 years in the police had me come into contact with many different type of drug users and I feel it is much more complicated than just self-esteem.
Reasons for drug use fall into many catergories and I think only one of them is self esteem….

Do video games serve any purpose other than to entertain the minds of the bored?
I ask myself this question after having just finished a video game so I am probably not the most unbiased person on the planet. Now the main question I was asked is, are video games addictive, the short answer to this question is yes, extremely addictive.
